Crime Analysis is a non sworn position at the Meridian Police Department that was designed to collect, analyze and disseminate information. Crime analysis processes local crime data in order to recognize possible suspects, crime patterns, series and trends. The crime analyst then supplies this information to Meridian police officers as well as surrounding agencies through daily updates, weekly bulletins and mapping. Through this type of research the analyst is also able to conduct administrative analysis, producing crime statistics for the department. These statistics identify the number of officer activities, traffic problems or crimes occurring within a specific area and the number of calls for service. The main objective for the crime analyst is to supply a link for stronger communication between officers and agencies as well as providing additional tools to ensure effective deployment.
