On September 24th, at the annual Idaho Recreation and Parks Association Conference in Orofino, Idaho, The Leighton Family Baseball Complex in Meridian was presented the “Outstanding Facility and Parks: Special Use” award. Meridian Parks and Recreation Director Steve Siddoway accepted the award on behalf of the City of Meridian. “This is a wonderful facility that is very deserving of this award,” Siddoway said. “The Leighton Family Baseball Complex in Settlers Park is a high quality venue we are all extremely proud of and represents many hours of volunteer labor and donations.”
The Leighton Family Baseball Complex is located in Settlers Park, on the corner of Meridian Road and Ustick Road and is the result of a partnership between the City of Meridian and Meridian Youth Baseball/Softball. Both entities have put in a great deal of time and money into this facility which has already hosted state and regional tournaments since being completed in the spring of 2008. There are 8 fields of various sizes in the complex, with one large two-story clubhouse, including concessions and restrooms. In addition, another restroom and concession building are located on the south end of the complex. The new ballfields provide a place to play for over 1,400 children ages 5 to 15 in the Meridian Youth Baseball & Softball programs, plus additional leagues hosted by the Meridian Parks & Recreation Department.
“This award was presented by IRPA in recognition of outstanding effort in the parks and recreation field statewide,” Siddoway said, “We are honored to have this baseball/softball complex recognized as one of the best in the state and region.”
